Description
The Safe-Life Signal is a 4G medical alert pendant with automatic fall detection, GPS location and hands-free two-way calling, designed for seniors and independent Australians who want reliable personal safety without monthly fees.
Press the button, or have a fall, and it calls up to 10 family members or carers in turn and texts them a Google Maps link to your location. It works at home and anywhere in Australia with Telstra 4G coverage, typically lasts 4 days per charge and weighs just 43 g.
Have a pacemaker? See the FAQ below, and consult your doctor before use.
What is the Safe-Life Signal medical alert pendant?
The Signal is a mobile medical alarm pendant that you wear on a lanyard around the neck or on a keyring. It has its own SIM card and GPS, so unlike a home base-station alarm it goes with you: to the garden, the shops or on holiday.
It replaces our previous 4G GPS Pendant Alarm. The Signal is about 20% lighter, runs longer between charges (typically 4 days, compared with 2 to 3) and adds GLONASS satellite positioning for faster, more reliable location fixes. It’s ideal for older people living alone, NDIS participants and anyone with a falls risk. Browse our full range of personal alarms for elderly safety.
How does the Signal pendant work?
- Alarm raised: the wearer presses the large SOS button, or the pendant detects a fall. A voice prompt confirms the alarm and gives the wearer a chance to cancel if it was an accident.
- Immediate SMS alerts: every emergency contact receives a text with the alarm type and a Google Maps link to the wearer’s location.
- Sequential calling: the pendant calls contacts one after another, up to 10, until someone answers.
- Hands-free two-way voice: the contact talks directly with the wearer through the pendant’s loudspeaker. No phone needed, and incoming calls from carers are answered automatically.
- Location on request: family can text the pendant at any time for an updated location, or get geofence alerts if the wearer leaves a set safe zone.

Frequently asked questions
Q: What is a medical alert pendant?
A: A small wearable alarm, usually worn around the neck or on a belt, that calls for help at the press of a button. The Signal is a mobile medical alert pendant: it has its own 4G connection and GPS, so it works anywhere with Telstra coverage, not only at home.
Q: Does it require a monthly subscription?
A: There’s no monthly fee. The included SIM is billed yearly ($66 renewal after the first 365 days). If you add professional monitoring, that’s a separate ongoing cost, billed either quarterly by direct debit or annually by invoice.
Q: Does it work outside the home?
A: Yes. It uses the Telstra 4G network and works anywhere in Australia with coverage. It doesn’t need Wi-Fi or a mobile phone nearby.
Q: Can I use my own SIM card?
A: Yes. Choose the “No SIM” option and use any 4G SIM on the Telstra network.
Q: Can I wear it as a medical alert necklace?
A: Yes. It comes with a lanyard to wear around the neck. Wearing it on the body, rather than leaving it on a bench, is what makes fall detection work.
Q: Can I wear it in the shower?
A: Yes. The Signal is IP67 rated, so showers and splashes are fine. Don’t swim with it or leave it submerged.
Q: How accurate is fall detection?
A: The motion sensor detects the sudden movement and impact of most hard falls. No wearable catches every fall, especially slow slides from a chair or bed, so the wearer should always press SOS if they can. False alarms can be cancelled by pressing SOS.
Q: Is there genuine 24/7 human monitoring?
A: If you choose our paid professional monitoring service (delivered through Securitas), yes, someone is monitoring 24/7. If you’re using the free contact-list option, the pendant alerts your chosen family or friends directly by SMS and phone call, with no monitoring centre involved.
Q: Does it automatically call 000, or does it call family first?
A: It depends on your setup. With the contact-list option, family or friends are contacted first, and 000 is only contacted as a last resort if no one responds. With professional monitoring, the monitoring centre calls in to assess the situation, then calls 000 first if it’s a genuine emergency and family after, or contacts family first if it isn’t.
Q: Is GPS location automatically transmitted?
A: Yes, with every alarm. Indoors, where satellites struggle, the pendant uses Wi-Fi and Bluetooth assisted positioning, and falls back to the last known location if no fix is available.
Q: How long does the battery last?
A: In Safe-Life’s own testing it consistently lasts 4 days per charge, and up to 6 days with light use. Heavy use, such as frequent location requests, live tracking or long calls, can bring that down to around 2 days. Most customers pop it in the charging dock every couple of nights so it’s always ready.
Q: Is it safe to use with a pacemaker?
A: The Signal passed independent RF exposure (SAR) and electromagnetic emissions testing to Australian standards in September 2025. Pacemaker manufacturers usually recommend keeping mobile devices about 15 cm from the implant, so wearing it on the key chain rather than over the chest may be advised. We can supply the full test reports to your doctor on request.
Q: Is it NDIS-funded?
A: Yes. Safe-Life is an NDIS-registered provider (Provider #4050109546).
Plan managers and self-managed participants can claim the Signal under assistive technology. It’s also GST-free when purchased for medical use.
Q: I have the previous 4G GPS pendant. Do I need to upgrade?
A: No. The previous pendant keeps working and we continue to support it. When you’re ready, contact us and we’ll move your contacts and settings to a new Signal.
